The Art Curriculum Philosophy
The visual arts are a means to express creativity, communication and self-expression; regardless of the student's background, talents, or ability level. We believe that art education should be process, rather than product oriented. The outcomes are designed so that the knowledge, skills and attitudes learned and developed will have transitioned into a basis for life long learning.
Visual arts give the students an opportunity to find rewards from within the learning process itself. Art education enhances the learner's ability to problem solve while developing their critical and creative thinking skills. Students will develop a respect and appreciation for the ideas and creations of others; as well as form an understanding of how art affects everyone's lives. Of particular interest in this program, are the concepts of Discipline Based Art Education -- a philosophy that includes the creation of art along with art history, aesthetic awareness, and art criticism.
